2019: The Broncos missed the playoffs by a wide margin. The team suffered a number of injuries toward the end of the year including to corner Chris Harris Jr and to rookie Phillip Lindsay which snuffed all hope of a playoff run for the team. After the season ended head coach Vance Joseph was fired after two years combining for 11 wins; he led the Broncos to their first consecutive losing seasons since 1970 when the broncos shared old mile high stadium with the Denver Bears. Denver’s new head coach, Vic Fangio, comes with decades of experience as a defensive coordinator but never as a head coach. Most are optimistic for the future with him as head coach; however nearly as much confidence is placed in new hires like Mike Munchak for the offensive line as in Fangio. The Broncos again draft in the top 10 and the future of the team is again and still in the hands of John Elway. Many wanted a quarterback drafted last year in a class where each of the 1st rounders started and all impressed. This year’s draft class does not have many QB names worthy of a top 10 pick but I am convinced Elway will reach for a less than supremely talented quarterback rather than taking one of many spectacular defensive players at every position. But before the draft the Broncos look at free agency, with Bronco players like Matt Paradis (center), Bradley Roby (corner), and Shaquil Barrett (edge rusher) the roster will be parsed down significantly; and it is unlikely they will bring in any big name talents to fill voids rather focusing on depth at position like corner receiver and both offensive and defensive lines. A very bright spot for the future is the 2018 draft class was one of the best in a while for any team, definitely the broncos with two starting receivers, 2 starting running backs, and a starting linebacker on top of Bradley Chubb as well as strong depth position players.
